Who is Harry’s ghostwriter, JR Moehringer – and how much did he make?

He was the recipient of the nation’s top journalism award, and Ben Affleck starred in the film adaptation of his life story.

JR Moehringer, however, is not among the wealthy, famous, or royal people that appear in Prince Harry’s book, Spare.

Rather, Mr. Moehringer assisted him in writing it.

It is not his first step into the realm of celebrity memoirs; he also co-wrote Phil Knight’s autobiography Shoe Dog and ghostwrote Andre Agassi’s memoir Open.

His ghostwriting services, which cost $1 million (£820,000) according to Page Six in 2021, include white-glove, fully immersive service.

Mr. Moehringer relocated to Las Vegas so he and Mr. Agassi could collaborate for 250 hours on the Open project. According to Mr. Agassi, he examined the writings of psychoanalysts Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud to better understand his own psychology.

However, Mr. Moehringer’s understanding of Mr. Agassi and the Prince—both complex individuals with troubled parental relationships—might have been influenced by his own complex relationship with his father.

The Tender Bar, Mr. Moehringer’s own 2005 memoirs on the subject, talked of his upbringing on Long Island as a single mother and his search for a father figure in his uncle Charlie and a group of barflies there.

The best ghostwriters are able to embody their subjects without ever sounding like a stand-up comedian performing an impression. They also write well.
