History-maker Glenn Maxwell smashes BBL records with brutal 154 from 64 balls
The Melbourne Stars and Glenn Maxwell scored the biggest totals in BBL history during their all-out assault on Hobart, which also served as a wake-up call for the Hurricanes by thrashing them by 106 runs just before the playoffs.
In the competition’s most savage hitting exhibition, Maxwell smashed an undefeated 154 off 64 balls at the MCG, slamming 22 boundaries and four sixes. It enabled the Stars to score a record total of 273-2, which is the third-highest score in franchise or international T20 history and 41 runs better than the next-best BBL total.

Only the totals earned by Afghanistan and the Czech Republic, in games against fellow underdogs Ireland and Turkey, have been greater. Maxwell’s total after the Hurricanes decided to rest Riley Meredith and Scott Boland as the ninth-highest in T20 history.
The night’s most astonishing stroke was an incredible switch-hit flick over fly-slip for six, as the star batsman completely controlled the Hurricanes everywhere around the wicket. With 41 balls, he completed the second-fastest century in BBL history, falling just two short of Craig Simmons’ 39-ball score from the previous year.

The right-hander blasted five boundaries for 22 runs off a Sandeep Lamichhane over, then he assisted in taking 21 off a D’Arcy Short over. Marcus Stoinis also finished unbeaten on 75 from 31 balls, so he wasn’t the only one.
Stoinis gave the Hurricanes no quarter on the same night he lost his BBL record for greatest score. In addition, he took 26 off a Tim David over and fired six balls over the rope.
In response, Hobart finished at 167-6 with Ben McDermott leading the way with 55 from 33, and they never seemed interested in the chase.
After the Stars concluded the season at 7-7 and with two losses while missing the majority of their roster due to Covid-19, Maxwell’s knock will provide fans of the team a nice “what-if?” moment.
According to Maxwell, “the disappointment of the previous week undoubtedly culminated in us playing with absolute freedom.” “This year has been very difficult. I’ve been hurt a lot, Covid, and pretty much every outcome has been against us.
For something to occur, a lot of conditions must be met. I received excellent assistance throughout.
With their momentum now seriously dented, the Hurricanes will still finish fifth and play Adelaide in an elimination game on Friday.
The challenger and decider finals will take place at home sites, while the first three finals will be held in Melbourne. Perth will play their home games at Marvel Stadium despite being barred from Western Australia.
